Woman Suffers 2nd Degree Burns After Falling Asleep On Her iPhone

While Samsung is the company that has been in the news lately with their mobile phone issues, they aren’t the only ones that seem to have trouble in that regards as it looks like the iPhone 7 also could have heat issues under certain usage scenarios. According to a report out of Australia, a woman suffered 2nd-degree burns on her arm after falling asleep watching a movie on her phone. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about heat issues from the iPhone 7 either as you might remember the car that allegedly burned down due to an iPhone. I write allegedly here because we don’t know for sure if that and this one is true, but it starts to paint a picture. Not as bad as the Samsung one, but not good either.

The woman left her phone charging and was watching movies when she fell asleep. A normal scenario that probably happens every day all around the world. But the morning wasn’t anything but normal as she woke up to find that her arm was hurting badly and was very red. She visited a hospital to find out what had happened and she then told that the marks on her arm were burn marks from a foreign object. When she got home, she started to investigate what could have caused it and she came to the conclusion that it was her iPhone and charger as the marks matched them perfectly.

She then took the phone to the Apple Store to report the incident. “Apple took my phone and details, but said it couldn’t have been the phone because it didn’t have a distinct smell. I then got a call from a member of the executive team who told me they were now handling the matter and had sent the phone to a senior technician in California for testing.” Apple also assured her that the phone couldn’t have been the issue as it is designed to shut down when it gets too hot.

While the burn is bad and will leave a scar that only can be removed with the use of plastic surgery, it could have been a lot worse as she said herself. She also didn’t seem to want anything as we’d otherwise see when people want horrendous amounts in compensation. She only wanted to raise awareness so other people can protect themselves and don’t end up in similar situations. She also turned down a replacement phone as she “lost trust in the company.”

What we can take away from this story most of all, is that you shouldn’t use electronic devices in areas with poor ventilation. You shouldn’t put it on soft surfaces such as blankets and mattresses either as it can’t breathe properly, especially when you charge them. They do get quite a bit hotter during this period due to the fast charging mechanisms employed these days. And that goes for all mobile phones, no matter the brand or name.
