Xbox Is Looking for Experts to Transform Its Business Model with ‘Urgency’
According to two job postings, Xbox is searching for experts who can help transform its business model — and do it quickly. This move is likely a reaction to the recent backlash caused by some of the company’s latest decisions.
One of the listings mentions the goal to “drive transformation initiatives with urgency”, while ensuring that all studios work in a coordinated way. On paper, Xbox is performing well, with revenues reaching $23 billion in the 2025 fiscal year, but the profit side might tell a different story.
What Kind of Transformation Could This Be?
There’s a strong possibility that the change revolves around the introduction of advertisements in games, an idea discussed for years. This approach could allow the company to offer some services for free, such as Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Such a move would tie together several major strategic acquisitions from the past five years — including Activision Blizzard, which brought with it King’s advertising platform, as well as the acquisition of Xandr in 2021.
A Broader Investment in Hardware and Strategy
As Microsoft recently confirmed, the new Xbox is indeed coming, and according to persistent rumors, it could be a hybrid console capable of running PC games through stores like Steam.
In this context, the Redmond-based company needs to carry out major internal changes. This is where the second job position fits in — a Gaming Content and Studios Finance Lead, who will work closely with the financial directors of different studios to ensure full strategic alignment.
According to the listing, this role will be responsible for “unifying and lead the financial vision” of Xbox’s first-party content and studios. The position aims to provide a global perspective while promoting operational efficiency and financial compliance across the organization.
Among the key duties are developing financial strategies for billion-dollar franchises, managing revenue forecasts, providing analysis and recommendations to meet profit targets, and coordinating activities among the CFOs of Xbox’s various studios.
In other news, Microsoft once tried to create its own Uncharted-style game for Xbox, codenamed Project Ranger, before canceling it due to creative disagreements.
