Xbox Series X|S Versions of Black Myth: Wukong Compared with PS5 and PS5 Pro
With the launch of Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox Series X and Series S, the action RPG developed by Game Science has returned under the spotlight. ElAnalistaDeBits analyzed the game’s performance on Microsoft’s consoles, comparing them with the PS5 and PS5 Pro versions.
Like on PlayStation consoles, the Xbox Series X and S versions also offer three graphic presets. The Quality mode targets 30 fps, with dynamic resolution between 720p and 1080p on Series S, and 1620p upscaled from an average of 1080p on Series X.
The Balanced mode targets 45 fps, reduced to 40 fps on displays with a refresh rate of 120Hz or higher. Resolution in this mode varies between 720p and 1080p on Series S, while on Series X it reaches 1440p reconstructed from 1080p.
Finally, the Performance mode targets 60 fps, with dynamic resolution between 552p and 720p on Series S, and a dynamic 1080p on Series X.
Comparison with PS5 and PS5 Pro
According to ElAnalistaDeBits, the Xbox Series X version achieves a higher average resolution than PS5 in Performance mode, but this advantage comes at the cost of weaker shadows and global illumination. Series S shows even stronger cuts across all graphic settings, with limitations that are particularly visible in draw distance, shadows, brightness, and vegetation.
Among all platforms, only PS5 and PS5 Pro manage to maintain satisfying graphic quality in performance mode. The analysis suggests Series X could have benefited from better optimization for this mode. However, Series X does present a greater draw distance for vegetation and some higher-quality textures compared to those seen on PS5 and PS5 Pro.
Frame Rate and Best Settings
Except for PS5 Pro, all consoles show frame rate irregularities, which are more noticeable on the Xbox versions. Still, overall performance remains acceptable. ElAnalistaDeBits recommends using the Balanced preset at 40 fps on a 120Hz or higher display, as this option ensures the most stable frame rate.
