XFX PRO 650W XXX Edition Power Supply Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

XFX’s PRO 650W XXX Edition power supply appears to only be available in Europe and the UK. We found the power supply for £62.98 at Amazon UK and £64.38 at Scan Computers. The XFX PRO 650W XXX Edition comes with a 5 year warranty.

Conclusion

XFX’s PRO 650W XXX Edition power supply brings with it all the hallmarks of a Seasonic power supply. There’s excellent voltage regulation, within 2% of what the rails should be, there’s excellent efficiency that meets 80 Plus Silver even though this is only a bronze rated unit and there’s also strong PFC performance. The ripple suppression of this unit is also incredibly good for its price point, no rail exceeded 25mV under any load scenario which is akin to something we’d see on a much higher-end power supply. For the amount of performance it offers the price point of £60-65 is incredibly competitive especially considering it is semi-modular.

However, for me it is hard to look beyond the the noisy fan. This is going to be a major turn-off for a lot of buyers especially considering you can buy power supplies of the same wattage from other PSU vendors that cost less and are much quieter, you can even buy fully modular units with higher certifications for a similar price. Until XFX fix the very noisy fan this unit exists as a missed opportunity, it has excellent performance that would put most power supplies to shame but when most other power supplies are still of high quality and have much quieter operation the XFX PRO 650W XXX Edition remains a tough sell. If you can get it on sale then it will definitely be worth a shot and if noise is no issue to you then it may also be worth considering.

Pros

  • Best-in-class ripple suppression
  • High efficiency
  • High PFC
  • Semi-modular design, nice modular cables
  • 5 year warranty
  • High quality components – Seasonic OEM

Cons

  • Could be priced better
  • Loud fan
  • Hard-wired cables lack attention to detail

“The XFX PRO 650W XXX Edition power supply has some of the best performance that we’ve ever seen on a mid-range unit, sadly the overall product is let down by a noisy fan. If noise isn’t a big deal to you then this could definitely be worth a shot, the 5 year warranty sweetens the deal too.”

Thank you to XFX for providing this review sample.
