XQEMU Open-Source X-Box Emulator is Working… Kinda

In recent years we have seen a little boom in emulators for older systems. The Wii-U has had Cemu, PS3 has RPCS3 and in general, they all have one thing in common. They don’t work and when they do, they work badly. With the release of X-box emulator XQEMU, you wouldn’t be being too much of a cynic to wonder if it really does work.

Well?… Does XQEMU work?

In some areas, yes, very well. I should note that as always with these types of emulators there are a lot of ‘yes, buts’.

Some success has been had in the more commercial titles for the system, however in general things are still very rough. That’s not entirely surprising though. Compared to Cemu and RPCS3, XQEMU is just a baby in development terms.

By their own admission: ‘most things don’t work, sound doesn’t work, everything is slow’. An honest if not entirely thrilling evaluation. I personally find this level of honesty refreshing. Why? Because I’m getting sick and tired of people saying how well Cemu and RPCS3 run. This is when the reality is often that they’re both still pretty shocking.

I run Cemu /  RPCS3 and it performs great!

Yes, yes, I know. Some people are managing to get some really decent performances out of these emulators. In fairness, I do not entirely disagree. I recently reported how Cemu had managed to get Zelda: Breath of the Wild to run fully. The problem is, and this is quite a humorous irony, you need practically a top end system to run Cemu or RPCS3 well.  I continually keep going back to both in the hope that there has been some massive improvement and alas not. Now, while my system isn’t top spec, it’s not like I’m using my mothers Dell here either.

So, give XQEMU a little slack. It’s not great, but it’s a start. Here’s the link to the official website. Try it out and let us know how you find it. It’s not as far along as the current trend setters in emulation, but then, they’re nowhere near perfect either.
