YouTube Adds Channel View Requirement for Ad Revenue

YouTube had a lot of backlash from advertisers lately as their ads very shown on extremist videos. That could make people believe that companies associated with that kind of a crowd which in return could affect their reputation. In reply to that and general abuse of the system, YouTube initiated a minimum view requirement for a channel before they can make money from the uploaded content.

With the new program, YouTubers won’t be able to make money from ads until their channel has a minimum of 10,000-lifetime views. That might seem like a lot, but with social networks and quality content, it should be reached quickly for those with video talents.

The new policy will help YouTube at identifying plagiarised content. YouTube believes that the minimum view policy will give them enough time to identify the legitimacy of a channel and award them compensation accordingly. YouTube considers that the minimum requirement is not too tough to reach, which means that it won’t discourage new creators from creating a channel.

In a blog post, Ariel Bardin, YouTube’s VP of product management, writes: “In a few weeks, we’ll also be adding a review process for new creators who apply to be in the YouTube Partner Program. After an uploader hits 10k lifetime views on their channel, we’ll review their activity against our policies. If everything looks good, we’ll bring this channel into YPP and begin serving ads against their content. Together these new thresholds will help ensure revenue only flows to creators who are playing by the rules.”

With the new system, it will be a lot easier for YouTube to identify automatic uploaders and repeated offenders before they make any money of their actions. That should help clean up the content, hopefully, and provide a better platform for everyone.

We don’t think that this will have any effect of legitimate YouTubers, but what do you think? Do let us know in the various comment fields.
