First unveiled as a subscription music service named Music Key, YouTube Red was re-launched on October 28, 2015 as a paid subscription service that offers ad-free access to all YouTube videos and premium content created by well-known YouTube producers and personalities. The trick is that the service is only available in the United States right now, but this doesn’t mean that it won’t be introduced to a wider audience in the future. Not too long ago, YouTube Red has announced that it will launch its very first original content starting February 10, and this content will include the documentary named A Trip to Unicorn Island, the comedy-thriller series Scare PewDiePie, the Lazer Team comedy and the Dance Camp musical.
The aforementioned shows will become available to US-based YouTube Red subscribers right away, but they will also be purchasable by users from all over the world via YouTube or the Google Play store. Furthermore, it looks like some of these YouTube Red Originals aren’t completely exclusive, as Lazer Team has brought in more than $1 million in pre-sales. These shows will definitely encourage more people to subscribe to YouTube Red, but we’ll just have to wait and see how popular the service will actually become in the following months. Susanne Daniels, YouTube’s global head of original content has stated the following:
“We have lots more thrills, chills, LOLs, smiles, romances and surprises from more of your favorite YouTube stars coming later this year.”
