YouTuber Pleads Not Guilty to Video Game Gambling Charges

YouTube

YouTube personalities, often referred to as “influencers” have a huge following and behave in an appropriate manner for the most part. Of course, there are exceptions and it’s important for those who are accused of wrongdoing to be subject to the full extent of the law. Some time ago, two individuals were charged with offences under the Gambling Act. Craig Douglas and Dylan Rigby received the charges for promoting a lottery and advertising unlawful gambling. Craig Douglas has a channel under the name “Nepenthez” which amassed over 1.3 million subscribers. Apparently, “Nepenthez” created websites to allow players the opportunity to win footballers via skin betting.

Not only that, he was accused of encouraging minors to gamble by advertising a website built around Fifa. As you can see these are some very serious charges and could result in a custodial sentence. The two individuals in question pleaded not guilty to the charges and intend to prove their innocence. The case has been adjourned until the 6th February 2017 and it will be interesting to see the final result. Of course, the not guilty plea means the punishment will be more severe if the pair receives a guilty verdict. It’s important to note that this is the first legal case involving video game skin betting and probably not going to be the last.
