Z77 motherboards to go on sale early April

With April slightly more than one month away, this leaves Ivy Bridge nearer than before. Whether or not you’ll go for a new-generation processor, motherboards with the new chipset are set to hit the shelves worldwide early April.

Sources revealed to OCWorkbench that shipping orders have already been sent by vendors to the distributors while most of the vendors are ready but are just waiting for the green light.

Since not everyone will go for Ivy Bridge so soon, Z77’s backward compatibility with the LGA1155 socket means that you can get a motherboard without having to have an Ivy Bridge processor.

Of course, it will leave you at a slight disadvantage as the new Z77 motherboards support the 22nm processor right out of the box. Furthermore the new chipset natively supports the USB 3.0 interface as well as fast SSD caching with the Intel Smart Response Technology (SRT). With the new CPU also comes support for DX11 video and HDMI 3D Visual Interface for stereo content. Lucid Virtu also makes an appearance, giving the ability to tap the power of the embedded video for quicker compression and encoding.
