Zotac RTX 4060 x Spider-Man Graphics Card Review

We've seen some pretty weird and wonderful cards over the years, and actually, a fair few of them from Zotac too! They've teamed up with Marvel to release a whole bunch of gaming hardware that features Spider-Man branding, tieing it in with the most recent Across the Spider-Verse movie to varying degrees based on which product you get. Some of the more expensive GPUs have custom backplates and stuff, while the more budget-focused Nvidia RTX 4060 I'm reviewing today comes with custom packaging, some stickers that can be applied to the GPU and a bag. Unfortunately, being lowly media, we didn't get all the cool stuff but you can check out more details on the product page here. RTX 4060 The RTX 4060 is the most affordable GPU architecture in the RTX 4000 series so far, and while we doubt people will be upgrading from their 3000 or maybe even their 2000 series of cards for whatever gains it will offer, those on the older 1000 series cards that are still the most popular on the Steam Hardware Survey are the ones that are likely to benefit the most, as something like the GTX 1060 struggles in the latest games, often sitting closer to 30 FPS while the new RTX 4060 should be a heck of a lot faster. This Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse inspired bundle includes a number of themed goodies, such as custom fan emblems, a set of decorative decals and a movie-inspired Ztorm figure (1 out of 3 random styles) that fans are sure to love." - Zotac A Closer Look The Zotac Twin OC is one of the shorter RTX 4060 cards we've seen so far, but while it may be shorter, it does feature a wider heatsink and shroud design, allowing them to integrate to large 90mm fans that run pretty much side to side and front to back on the shroud. The card is a little bit bland to look at though, and I was hoping for something more colourful given the whole Spider-Man box art, and well... this is just a grey shroud, a bit of a let down really. That being said, if you do like a more understated graphics card, this isn't a bad thing, and the shroud is neat and tidy, and with it only taking up two slots, it's going to be easy to integrate into a smaller form factor and slimmer PC cases too. The spot in the middle of the fan is where you can apply the included stickers, but for a Spider-Man card, only 3 of the stickers are Spidey themed, and the other 5 are Zotac themed, doh! You do get this pop-out cardboard thingy though, and that's pretty neat. There's a good amount of ventilation on the sides of the card, with a thick heatpipe exposed on the side ensuring the heat is more evenly distributed throughout the heatsink. Like all the other RTX 4060s we've seen this week, the card sticks with the older PSU 8-pin connector, so there's no need to upgrade your PSU or use some silly adaptor. The backplate looks great, with a few bits of ventilation cut into it, it should provide additional protection and heat dissipation for the PCB, plus as is often just as important to PC gamers these days, it looks pretty cool too. At the rear of the card, you'll find a single HDMI as well as three DisplayPorts. Fairly standard, although some of the cards from other brands opt for two HDMI and two DisplayPort if that better suits your needs. The heatsink is easily removed, and as you can see, it has quite a large contact plate, with a single thick heatpipe running in an S-shape through the thick plate base of the heatsink. On the other side, there's a lot of mass here, with some of the thickest fins I've seen on a modern graphics card. It looks more like a large passive heatsink, but with those two large fans that cover almost all of it, cooling performance should be pretty decent on this card. The PCB is quite small, with the card having four 2GB SKHynix GDDR6 memory chips, and while there's room for a few more on the PCB, there's no word on a higher VRAM model just yet. How We Test We continue to update our testing methods around once per year. As such, we re-test older hardware to reflect changes over time. These can be driver updates, Windows updates, game patches, and more; all of which have an impact on performance figures. Furthermore, we update our test benches to newer and more relevant hardware. This means that our new reviews aren’t always comparable to those of older reviews, so please compare the testing methodology on older reviews should you be trying to compare them with newer ones. Replicate Our Results When it comes to our benchmarks in our reviews, the benchmarks are pretty self-explanatory and are kept as simple as possible, although there are a few exceptions. Remember that your choice of a graphics card, CPU, the silicon lottery, and other factors can yield different numbers, and there’s always a margin for error when using any software. Links are provided below, as well as the settings we use. We encourage you to not just look at how one product compares to any other, but how it compares to your own. If you’re looking to build a new system, you should benchmark your current PC using the benchmarks available to you. You should then look at the percentage improvement from your current hardware to the hardware tested here to give you a ballpark figure of how much of an upgrade this will provide you with. Some applications are specifically used for testing, while others are simply used for monitoring and to aid us in making sure that our results are as accurate as possible. Software Used 3DMark FireStrike & TimeSpy (download) Gaming To gauge performance levels which are easily reproduced time after time, by both ourselves and our readers, we now stick strictly to games' default profiles. Given how powerful most modern cards are getting, we've begun using more demanding profiles for most games, but will otherwise state on a per-game basis if we use other profiles beyond High, Ultra, Maximum or their respective equivalent at all resolutions. V-Sync is always disabled in our testing, and all FPS caps that can be removed are. We also enable XMP and Resizable bar technology across all platforms to keep things as fair as possible. Games While we test a lot of games, it's not possible to display all of the data on the website or in our videos. Instead, we include access to all of our testing data for our Patreon members (link), where members get a ton of other benefits as well. What we do, however, is display charts for averages across all game titles to give a better picture of performance across all titles tested. However, these will be clearly labelled and may only appear in reviews for graphics cards that support those features. Power Consumption Not being content on simply reading total system power draw at both idle, we now have the ability thanks to the ElmorLabs PMD-USB device that allows us to measure power draw directly through the EPS power connectors. We test at idle, during gaming load, of which we measure drawing a run of Cyberpunk 2077 and during Cinebench R23 at load too. Temperatures We take temperature readings after 10 minutes of desktop idle with no background programs running, then take the recorded maximum delivered during the same runs as when we measure power consumption, being during our Cyberpunk 2033 run, and during Cinebench R23 at load too. The graphics gods giveth and taketh away here, with a slight bump in average FPS but a slight drop in 1% lows, but I'll be damned if I could pick which was which while actually just playing the game. Much like we saw in our main feature though, the 3060 Ti is just nipping ahead here in rasterisation. The INNO3D card has the lead here, by quite a bit actually, but largely they're both right next to each other and sitting between the 3060 and the 3060 Ti again. The fantastic Death Stranding always runs so great, and smashing out 152 FPS is nothing to complain about, and the INNO3D card is ahead, but only ever so slightly. Pretty much identical averages, with just a small drop in the 1% lows on the Zotac card. Cost Per Frame The overall power usage on these cards is really impressive, with lower power usage, temperatures and operating costs than the last generation, which is always great to see. The INNO3D card came in a little better though, but again, splitting hairs, as they're both very similar. For the temperatures, we ran the card in an hour-long test of F1 2022 and it’s here that we saw the GPU temperature coming in at 76 degrees throughout the test. It actually ran a little hotter than the INNO3D card and the same again for the hotspot temps with the Zotac coming in with a max of 94 over INNO’s 85. The fans were barely audible with a max fan usage of 1739 RPM even leaving it quieter than the INNO3D too. Finally, for the GPU power, the card ran at a max of 119.3 watts throughout the duration of our test. How Much Does it Cost? Interestingly the RTX 3060 is still available at basically the same price, so it's a no-brainer to get the new one in this scenario. Overview Zotac has done some really cool things with their Spider-Man licence, but I'm sad to say their efforts on the RTX 4060 aren't one of them. I can appreciate this is a budget card though, so putting an expensive Spider-man backplate on the card may be too much, but it's basically just the stock black card in a box with some stickers and a pop-out cardboard thingy, and it just falls a bit flat for Spider-man fans in my opinion. Alas, this is still a great-looking graphics card, and we've seen Zotac use this cooler design in the past; it was great then and it's still great now. The thick heatsink and large fans waste none of the available space, and despite the smaller size of this card, it's a very robust cooler design for this modest GPU and the overall build quality of the card just feels very good in general. Overall, the temperatures are good, and the card runs nice and quiet, which are always good things for any GPU. When it comes to performance, the card is pretty much on par with the competition. They all have custom coolers, and a few of them are slightly overclocked from the factory too, but largely they're all vaguely different flavours of the same thing and for the most part, it boils down to which brand you like the most and the price. Thankfully for Zotac, they're a cool brand, with a good reputation and their card comes in at a good price too, so while the Spider-Man aspect may have been overplayed on the box and marketing, at least on this model, I still think it's a great investment for those looking to upgrade from older graphics cards such as the GTX 1060, but likely of little interest to those on something more recent such as the RTX 3060/Ti. Plus it being one of the shorter RTX 4060 cards, it'll have some appeal to those building mini-ITX systems. NZXT N7 Z690
