Zowie G-CM Mouse Mat Review

For testing I decided to bring out my own mouse, the Roccat Kone XTD which features a very high DPI laser sensor, the Zowie AM Optical Mouse and the MadCatz R.A.T.3 Optical, all three offer a different level of DPI resolution  weight and glide capabilities that I think will work well with this surface.

All the mice glide pretty well over this surface, each is fitted with good quality Teflon slip mats, but given the soft nature of the mouse mat there is that little bit of sink into the surface. It’s only minor but its provides a little drag, which in its self is no bad thing. It’s all a matter of preference and while some people prefer the speed of a hard surface, others prefer the extra control that can be obtained from this kind of soft surface, this surface definitely favours the latter.

As I hoped it would, the softer surface of the G-CM provided an extra level of comfort in long gaming sessions, although the added drag could make some peoples wrist feel more tired, I generally prefer the drag and even have my Roccat Kone XTD full loaded with extra weights to suit my play style. Using the R.A.T.3 provided much less drag in general than the Kone XTD, but its wider base prevents it from gliding perfectly. The Zowie AM made the easiest work of the surface, still maintaining a good level of grip but its design allowed for less drag that the R.A.T.3.

This level of comfort and control is much to my liking and after many hours of work and gaming I am very happy with its performance. It’s quite large at 440 x 320 x 2 mm which provides more than enough travel room for most any gaming or day to day use requirements, but it’s also not so large that you couldn’t roll it up and take it with you to a LAN event.
