AMD has just released its first set of “logo-certified” drivers for Windows 8.1. While this is not the same as WHQL certified these drivers should still be fully compatible with the new Windows 8.1 OS as it complies with the new Windows Display Driver Model 1.3. The driver brings support for Direct3D 11.1 on HD 7000, HD 8000 (OEM) and the upcoming Rx 2XX series GPUs. Direct3D 11.1 will make its first notably with Battlefield 4 later on this year. Catalyst 13.9 supports all graphics cards since the HD 5000 series and all APUs ever released. The new Catalyst Control Center runs on Microsoft’s .NET 4.5 runtime environment which is part of the Windows 8.1 package.
Catalyst 13.10 Beta will work on all older Windows operating systems and is designed to bring game performance improvements such as 20% better CFX scaling in Rome Total War 2, 20% better CFX scaling in Saints Row 4 and 10% better CFX scaling on Metro Last Light. Additionally, frame-pacing has been improved on six titles – Tomb Raider (2013), Metro: Last Light, Sniper Elite V2, World of Warcraft, Max Payne 3, and Hitman: Absolution.
