27-Inch IPS-Glass WQHD 60Hz OEM Monitor Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

Finding an accurate price for any OEM monitor is extraordinarily difficult because the product was sent directly from the factory. Nevertheless, I’ve been given the final price which comes to a total of $265. It’s important to remember that OEM monitors are typically offered at lower prices than retail models and can be a good investment if you can accept the rudimentary package. As always, please be careful if you’re importing the display from the factory instead of dealing with a retailer because you could be strung by import charges.

Summary

In a similar vein to other OEM products, the monitor isn’t going to set any records for its aesthetic qualities. For example, the unsightly bezels and glossy construction leave a lot to be desired. Furthermore, the stand is awful and making any kind of ergonomic adjustments is a painful procedure. Technically, the stand has tilt support, but you have to employ way too much force to alter the monitor’s angle. This also applies to the unit’s swivel function which feels overly stiff and doesn’t respond to user input in a seamless manner.

Not only that, the stand’s lightweight construction is barely able to cope with the monitor’s 27-inch size and consistently moves about whenever you try to employ the swivel feature. Additionally, the display is set to a ludicrously low height which forced me to dip my head downwards. Even worse, you cannot change the height to suit your seating position. The only positive sentiment I can make about the stand is you can remove it and choose a much better option. Saying that, OEM monitors usually forgo extras like a premium housing and good stand to keep the price point low. Therefore, I can excuse the lacklustre stand and understand why it’s so basic.

On a more positive note, the monitor’s panel is astonishing and able to achieve 100% sRGB and 77% AdobeRGB without calibration. Furthermore, the stock setup is capable of superb colour accuracy with consistent Delta-E results across the board. Other highlights include a good contrast at numerous brightness levels and impressive luminance uniformity on each quadrant. The white point could be better though at 4800. After calibration, the AdobeRGB coverage improved to 78% and there were clean gains in the colour accuracy statistics. Adjusting the default profile allowed for better colour uniformity and a slightly higher contrast ratio at 25% brightness. Sadly, the luminance uniformity wasn’t as good once the display had been calibrated.

The monitor’s 2560×1440 resolution and marvellous colour gamut create a splendid user-experience. This gorgeous colour palette really helps to showcase the nuances in a detailed image. During games, this helps to enhance immersion as you can view background additions in a clearer manner due to the improved clarity. Speaking of games, the 60Hz panel isn’t FreeSync enabled which means you have to deal with either stutter caused by V-Sync or screen tearing. On a similar note, the 12ms response time isn’t ideal for eSport professionals or users who enjoy competitive online contests. The response time is acceptable though if you’re a single player game who leisurely explores vast worlds and takes in the gorgeous scenery.

Pros

  • Crisp IPS technology brings games to life
  • Exceptional colour gamut
  • Good speakers
  • Minimal backlight bleed
  • Impressive contrast ratio
  • OSD is easy to use
  • Superb colour accuracy
  • Wonderful colour uniformity

Cons

  • Large bezels
  • Monitor is set to a low height and can’t be adjusted
  • Poor stand

“The 27-Inch IPS-Glass WQHD 60Hz OEM monitor produces a stellar picture with a very rich colour gamut. Unfortunately, the rudimentary stand and large bezels make this a flawed package unless you decide to mount it onto a wall which means you’re unlikely to notice the bezels from a distance”.
