Ryzen 9 7950X3D Has Been Benchmarked in Blender & Geekbench 5

The upcoming flagship CPUs from AMD have certainly been something we’re looking forward. Previously, their X3D versions of existing chips have been a mighty upgrade, taking the existing CPU design to its absolute limits, and in quite a few instances, pushing it ahead of what Intel had to offer for around the same price. Now the launch of AMD’s Ryzen 7000X3D range of CPUs is about to do the same, we hope.

The flagship of the new CPUs will be the mighty AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D. However, earlier this week, the new chip appeared in some benchmark figures via HXL and Benchleaks, showcasing the first figures for both Blender and Geekbench 5.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D

With its 16-core design, the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D features 144MB of L2+L3 cache, but it does appear to be 5.4% slower than the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X, which features a smaller 80MB L2+L3 cache. However, it was enough to put it a little ahead of Intel’s Core i9-13900K and the Apple M2 Max.

The Ryzen 9 7950X3D can run at up to 5.70 GHz, and with 16-cores, it’s no wonder it’s such a fast CPU and I suspect the performance will improve further with driver updates post-launch. However, the 3D V-Cache has a lower clock speed than the Ryzen 9 7950X, which will impact the single-threaded performance, but overall, the multi-core advantages should balance that out nicely.

Of course, it’s too early to tell what this means for real-world performance, but despite the slower cache speed, there’s every reason to think this will be one of the fastest consumer CPUs we’ve ever seen. Given these are pre-production systems, and we don’t even know for certain if this was retail hardware, things are likely to look even better when it launches. 2

Zen 4 3D V-Cache

The AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D CPU has a much larger L3 cache than the Ryzen 9 7950X, a much higher base frequency and a higher boost clock on all cores. I’m really looking forward to seeing some gaming benchmarks, as well as some more rendering results to see the full advantages of the Zen 4 3D V-Cache compared to the existing 7000 series CPUs.
