A Game Porter Is Offering Services To Maintain Old Games To Prevent Them Being Lost

Many older video games have been lost to time with around 87% of them being inaccessible which is caused by a plethora of different reasons. One of those reasons is developers not maintaining their older games, fortunately, Ethan Lee, a game porter, has made an offer to maintain these older games.

Ethan Lee Offers Services To Maintain Older Games

As reported by Liam Dawe at gamingonlinux.com, Ethan Lee also known as flibitjibibo, is a game porter behind FNA as well as various game ports to Linux. Lee has announced a new service offering his skills to maintain older games stating in an announcement:

“Starting today, I’m introducing a new service to my portfolio: I am now available for hire to maintain games that have released and may no longer be in development! I believe that I can help bring your back catalog back to life, and can do so quickly and effectively with minimal costs to your business.”

Lee is offering maintenance for games and ports for Linux, Windows, Xbox (One, Series X|S), Nintendo Switch and macOS using x86_64. For the services, Lee of course requests payment but also requires a native Linux port of the game available to customers and even if that isn’t the case, Lee will make one.

A Good Option For Developers

Considering many older games are a faff to get working and most developers don’t have the time nor resources to keep maintaining their older titles, This seems like a good plan. Hire someone on the outside to get some of your older titles up to date for the few people who still want to play them and for future generations. Think about a game from your youth that you are unable to play and then imagine a kid from today who’d never play that and then imagine a game released in the last few years that could meet the same fate, unless someone works on maintaining them for future technology.
