Abandon Ship

Abandon Ship is a high-seas adventure game, set with a similar style to that of Faster Than Light (FTL) in that game you had to navigate space while the RNG would either aid or hinder you along the way. Abandon Ship is similar, but set on the high seas and also has a little dose of the dark arts thrown in for good measure.

If you are liking the sound of this game already, then good news! Abandon Ship has officially released in early-access on Steam.

What do you do in the game?

You take your ship and you attempt to get from A to B. Along the way, you can upgrade your ship, get new crew, but beware, there are many dangers on the ocean.

Such issues include the sea itself, other ships (and pirates) and even the Kraken makes an appearance.

Those who have played FTL will be instantly familiar with the settings of the game. Despite portraying itself as a strategy/adventure game, it’s more accurately a survival game. The whole point is not to do well, but to stay alive. In this specific instance, keep your boat afloat.

In addition, the random events which occur can be useful, but despite having the best luck of your life in a playthrough, as in FLT, you are only 1 turn away from oblivion.

Early Access

Firstly, do not forget, this is early access and there’s very little more that annoys me than someone who complains about an early access game. You buy it, you take certain risks.

Despite that warning, Abandon Ship, even in its current state, is remarkably good. Currently available on Steam in early access and even discounted to around £12.50. If you were interested in trying something new and a little different, this game might be a solid choice for you.
