ADATA Display SD Cards and Portable Storage at CES 2018

We have seen a lot of storage products at CES 2018 and we’re not done yet. We stopped by ADATA to check out their new products too. Among the things they brought along are a bunch of memory cards as well as portable storage drives.

ADATA Premier ONE microSDXC UHS-II U3 V90

While microSD cards are tiny, their capacity options aren’t anymore. The Premier ONE microSDXC performs quite well and shows figures that could make HDDs jealous. It is rated for up to 275 MB/s throughput which should make 4K and 8K footage an easy task. On top of that, you get up to 256GB capacity in these tiny cards. Not bad, not bad at all!

The product name seems long, but that is mainly due to all the certifications. There are quite a few of those when it comes to memory cards and ADATA has most covered with the Premier ONE. It has the older UHS-II and U3 rating as well as the newer V90. V90 is a video speed class rating which is important for drone operators, among others.

256GB isn’t the only capacity option available, you can get the Premier One SD 4.0 card with 64GB and 128GB capacity too. All of them are built with 3D MLC NAND which is what allows them to perform as great as they do.

Video and photographers need one kind of storage, app users another. Mobile phones have room for microSD cards too. At least most proper ones have the option. Application usage requires a different kind of performance than image and video storage does and that’s what these cards are for. Applications require a better random performance and that’s what the Premier Pro A1 and A2 do better. With up to 4000 IOPS and 256GB capacity, we’re starting to get something that’s workable.

Mobile phones aren’t the only places such cards could come in handy, small and embedded systems, DIY systems like the Raspberry Pi and similar devices that work off memory cards will see a benefit from using these ADATA cards.

ADATA ED600 Rugged Portable Enclosure

ADATA showed us their portable drive series too which is one that we’re familiar with already. We’ve reviewed a couple of the drives already. The ED600 isn’t a drive, but an enclosure where you can install your own drive into. While that isn’t new as such, the rugged features of the ED600 are. The ED600 is IP54 rated and shock resistant.

Inside the ED600, you can mount a 7mm or 9.5mm SSD or HDD. The tool-free design allows for a 3-second installation while the safety lock keeps it together. The ED600 connects through USB 3.1, but no mention whether it is Gen.1 or Gen.2. Most likely Gen.1 as it is built for SATA drives.
