AMD Radeon HD 7770 CrossFire Review

When we looked at the 7750’s CrossFire performance in relation to a single card setup, it was clear that the cost of getting the extra card would be worth each and every single penny. What we’ve seen here is very much the same story, however the new performance levels are now that much higher. Expecting the pair of entry-level cards to take on a GTX 580 was not something that was forseen and to say we’re astonished is an understatement.

When it comes to AMD’s ability for cards to scale their performance to a certain level, we often see scaling all around 1.5x, but like the 7750, we found that the cards were able to scale at near 2x and astonishingly in Dirt3, a scaling factor way past this.

We’ve also seen from the individual reviews, that the 7770 is a remarkable card in its own rights and this makes its bank for buck value all that more rewarding, but for us to say twice on the go that purchasing an extra card for the performance gains is really worth every penny is a huge feat by AMD.

As with any upgrade, the cost factor does have an influence on whether its a viable option or whether you should spend that little bit more to get a mid range card from the offset. When we look at the rough costs involved here two of these cards are going to set you back in the region of £200 which is right in the ball park of 6000 series cards. What we have to consider though is that not only are you getting GTX 580 levels of performance, you’re also getting the full advantage of the 7000 series features that these cards also have to offer.
