It’s not exactly a secret that, sooner or later, AMD will officially announce the launch of their more entry-level focused Radeon 6600 and 6600 XT graphics cards. Exactly when though is still a matter of debate, many expected them to have already landed several months ago. With more and more leaks mounting, however, their reveal does look to be on the horizon. If you were wondering just how potent they might be, well, following a report via Videocardz, we don’t only have specifications, but we also potentially have some benchmarking results!

The source claims that the information is exceptionally reliable and, while certainly promising, we should suggest you take this with a grain of salt. Leaks are, after all, not always reliable. So, until you see Dr Lisa Su pictured on a stage with one of them in her hands, take such news as indicative but not definitive.

So, putting that little disclaimer to one side, in terms of what we’re given here, the specs and benchmarking scores certainly look more than decent.

AMD RADEON 6600

  • 1792 Cores
  • 8GB GDDR6 VRAM
  • 128-BIT MEMORY BUS
  • Time Spy Score – 7,805

AMD RADEON 6600 XT

  • 2048 Cores
  • 8GB GDDR6 VRAM
  • 128-BIT MEMORY BUS
  • Time Spy Score – 9,439

What Do We Think?

In terms of comparative performance, while we’ll freely admit that the Time Spy scores provided are not 100% gospel (in any aspect), it would seem to suggest that the standard Radeon 6600 will offer performance roughly on par with the reference Nvidia 3060 while the 6600 XT will be somewhere in between the Nvidia 3060 and 3070 with it seemingly more erring (slightly) towards the higher end of the scale. So, if the price is right in terms of placement, they look more than decent as a modern AAA-gaming 1080p graphics solution.

Will miners gobble them all up though? Well, maybe not. The source is claiming that with the somewhat lacklustre 30Mh/s seen on the 6600 XT, while it might be chosen in the absence of anything better, it’s certainly not going to be an overly desirable option for that community. So, while pending a lot of confirmation, if you are in need of a new graphics card before the end of the year, the AMD Radeon RX 6600 or 6600 XT might be shaping up to be your best choice. Well, in terms of them actually being available to buy at least!
