In just under a month, one of the biggest PC hardware launches in recent history will happen. AMD has officially confirmed that the launch for Ryzen will take place in early March and based off of other collaborating evidence, we know it has to happen before March 3rd. Luckily for us, a new leak has come out suggesting that March 2nd will be the launch. What’s more, we also have more details about the launch lineup.

According to the source, AMD will be using the R7, R5 and R3 series naming scheme. This corresponds to the internal SR7, SR5 and SR3 processors. At launch, there will be 8 core 16 thread, 6 core 12 thread, 4 core 8 thread and 4 core 4 thread processors. There will not be a 8 core 8 thread model coming out. Each ‘family’ will have several different processors coming out as well with a further ‘X’ and ‘PRO’ differentiator. As every Ryzen is unlocked, the X and PRO likely differentiate in clock speed.

For R7, we have the R7 1800X, R7 PRO 1800, R7 1700X, R7 1700, R7 PRO 1700. These chips will have a base clock ranging from 3 GHz from the bottom all the way up to 3.6 GHz. Of course, the boost clock will be higher than that.

For the R5 lineup, AMD has confused things a bit by merging the 6 core and 4 core models with SMT together. For the 6 core models, we have the R5 1600X, R5 PRO 1600, R5 1500 and R5 PRO 1500. The quad cores are the R5 1400X, R5 PRO 1400, R5 1300, R5 PRO 1300. Both series clock from 3.2 GHz to 3.5 GHz base. If this lineup is real, it seems a shame for AMD to confuse their marketing like this.

Next, we have the 4 core 4 thread processors that fit under the R3 banner. These are the R3 1200X, R3 PRO 1200, R3 1100 and R3 PRO 1100. Thier clock range is from 3.1 GHz to 3. GHz. In my opinion, it would be better suited to have all the quad cores fit under the R3 banner and let the model number differentiate between the SMT enabled units.

Finally, the source is claiming that only the R7 will be available at launch which is not surprising. Hopefully, we will also get more information on the rest of the lineup to help clarify things as well. No pricing information was leaked or revealed.
