As one of the biggest tech launches of the year, AMD’s Ryzen has been leaking like a sieve. So far, we’ve gotten leaks on some specifications as well as the EU and US pricing. Most of the leaks have dealt with only a specific aspect of the processors. Now we have a comprehensive leak for what is likely going to be the most popular Ryzen, the R7 1700.
According to a leaked retailer posting, the R7 1700 clocks in at 3.7 GHz. With the new SenseMI technologies, the chip can also dynamically boost higher as long as it is within the TDP and cooling requirements. The chip has a total of 8 cores and 16 threads with 16MB of L3, 4MB less than the R7 1800X. Despite not being an X chip, it does feature an unlocked multiplier and comes with an in-box Wraith heatsink.
The most amazing thing for the R7 1700 is the fact that it is reportedly costing only about $316 to $320. That’s a bargain deal for an octa-core CPU and about a third of the comparable Intel i7 6900K which clocks in at 3.7 GHz too. For about the same price as the quad core i7 7700K, you can get a Zen power processor that offers double the amount of cores.
As AMD has already demonstrated, Ryzen comes in at about the same IPC as Broadwell. Since Skylake was only a minor improvement, AMD’s Zen based chips should have no issue with single threaded performance. If this aggressive pricing scheme is real, AMD appears to be serious about making CPUs cheaper and offering a competitive but much better value lineup compared to Intel. It’s hard to see Intel not responding in some way unless they’re willing to bleed marketshare to AMD.
