As AMD’s Ryzen launch inches closer each more and more leaks are coming out. So far, both February 28th and March 2nd have been pointed to as being the launch dates. The 28th will see review embargos lift while the 2nd will have processors actually become available to customers. While we have seen online listings for Ryzen, we now have some in-store leaks.
At Fry’s electronics, we now have listings for the R7 1800X and the R7 1700X pop-up. Priced at $489 and $389 respectively, that is just about where the leaked MSRP sits. Both chips feature 8 cores with 16 threads and clock in at 3.6 GHz and 3.4 GHz stock respectively. Boost clocks hit at least 4.0 GHz and 3.8GHz respectively but AMD’s new dynamic XFR boost should allow even higher boost speeds depending on the specific chip and cooling.
So far, leaks have shown AMD nipping right at the heels of comparably specced Intel CPUs. However, AMD is undercutting the prices by as much as 60% in some cases, making them by far a better value. It will be interesting to see if Intel is willing to see their market share bleed or cut prices drastically to match. It is unknown which cooler the R7 1800X and 1700X will be sold with if any at all.
