AMD Zen Mobile Chips Apparently On Track for Q2 2017 Launch

Zen

AMD’s upcoming Zen architecture could dramatically shake up the processor market and make AMD a force to be reckoned with among enthusiasts. It’s a challenge given the expensive R & D budget and extremely high expectations from loyal AMD fans. So far, there hasn’t been much information regarding performance except a few leaks, although some of these might not offer a credible insight into the potential of Zen on a mass market level. The latest news stems from ExPreview, whose insider sources claim the Zen mobile chips will arrive in Q2 next year. This seems likely since the desktop and APU versions are scheduled to launch in Q1 and employ an integrated platform chipset.

On another note, portable platforms utilise fewer storage options such as USB 3.0 and other connectivity methods which should help push the mobile chips out sooner. It will be fascinating to see how the Zen mobile processors compare to the desktop versions and popular Intel offerings like the i7-6700HQ. Evidently, this is a very exciting time for the processor market and if true, it’s good to see AMD remain on track with both their desktop and mobile variants for Zen. Only time will tell if the architecture lives up to people’s expectations but I’m fairly optimistic.
