AMD enjoying more GPU market share

Latest market share data is in from Jon Peddie Research, the results showing a good reason for AMD to take the champagne out over the week-end.

Right at the end of last year, prior to the launch of the next-gen GPUs, AMD already benefitted a 24.8% market share, growing 7.8% compared to Q3 2011. Nvidia however made a dip of 3.1%, from 16.1 to 15.7% sequentially. As for Intel, the growth has basically come to a halt. Chipzilla dropped from 60.4 to 59.1 percent.

When comparing the figure by years instead of quarters, we find AMD to be in even better shape. The end of Q4 of 2010 revealed AMD with a 24.2% market share while Nvidia came short at 22.5%. AMD is now enjoying a nice place in the lead with 58% increase in GPU shipments over Nvidia. The loss doesn’t stop there as Intel also took ground from under Nvidia with a market share of 52.5% at the end of 2010 while it is now at 59.1%.
