Test Setup
Here at eTeknix we always like to test things. We hope that’s one of the reasons you come to this site, so as usual we will give you real proof of how good (or not) this thermal compound is. To keep things fair we will use the same test rig under the same conditions, and will keep the room temperature as constant as possible.

We will be comparing the Antec Formula 6 with the old favourite, Artic MX-2 as well as the Antec Formula 7 and Evercools Thermal Paste.

The test itself will be pretty standard. Using the Akasa Venom CPU Cooler, we will apply one thermal compound and then run the processor up at 3.4 GHz (stock speed), and allow the computer to sit idling for 20 minutes. We will then record the temperature of all 4 cores and average. Then we will run 20 minutes of Prime95 -running Torture Tests – the temperatures will be recorded the same.

Then the computer will be turned of and the computer allowed to cool to room temperature. The computer will then be started up with the processor running at an overclocked 4.0 GHz (By only increasing the CPU multiplier and leaving all other settings on Auto), the same idle and load tests will be the same.

We will then repeat this 3 times. After this, we will remove the CPU Cooler and clean the Heatsink and CPU of thermal compound and apply the next compound and repeat the entire test procedure.

All readings will be averaged over the 3 repeats. The room temperature will be held as constant as possible – in this case at 23 degrees C.
