Antec Formula 6 Nano Diamond Thermal Compound Review

The Formula 6 Nano Diamond will out perform most thermal compounds out there, however it is several £’s more expensive than Arctic’s MX-2. The difference between £7 and £5 doesn’t seem like much but when you only get a few grams thats a big difference per gram.

It must also be noted that we achieved better results with both the Antec Formula 6 and Formula 7 after ‘breaking in’ or ‘burning in’ the Thermal Compound, this is not that unusual but is hardly discussed and talked about. For thermal compound to work well it needs to reach a high operating temperature and be kept at that temperature for a length of time so that the compound spreads out slightly and effectively closes the gap between the CPU and the CPU cooler. Applying this thermal compound and expecting it to produce amazing results just doesn’t work. This is not normally much of a noticeable difference but with the Antec we are talking 6/7 degrees or more difference between the first 20 mins and the third 20mins.

If you are a serious overclocker and want THE best from a thermal compound then this might well be the stuff for you but remember there are others on the market that are very competitive and are a tad cheaper. It is worth remembering the likes of Arctic and Gelid who are also produce compounds with impressive results. However, I was impressed with the general quality of the compound, it spreads nicely and isn’t too sticky but performs well. The added spreader does also make my job easier and certainly makes testing more fair so that is a good positive.
