Antec HCG Gold 1000W Power Supply Review

Packaging

For those of you familiar with the Antec HCG series, the packaging here will look very familiar indeed. The front of the box certainly makes you aware, in no uncertain terms, as to exactly what you’re getting here. However, the only mild complaint I have is that there are no images of the actual power supply anywhere. So, exactly what you’re getting inside is, at least in terms of the packaging, a bit of a mystery.

Pretty much the entirety of the box work has been dedicated to providing you with the key features, specifications, and all other useful information. In terms of details and letting you know what you’re getting, this is fantastic. Again though, I’m just disappointed they couldn’t put an actual image of the power supply itself somewhere. Particularly since, as you’re about to find out, it has a rather interesting design.

We should also note that there is an additional piece of packaging inside the exterior box. This is, of course, to house the power supply and cabling, but it’s somewhat rare to see this level of quality where, in most instances, egg box-like cardboard is used. Therefore, this does give you some indication that this is a premium product with this extra bit of added care put towards its presentation.

Accessories

Being a power supply, you clearly neither expect nor necessary want masses of accessories. Fortunately, what Antec does provide you with is more than useful. You’re given two product manuals (one detailing its huge 10-year-warranty) as well as a number of both branded and unbranded zip ties. So, no excuses for poor cable management here folks!

In addition to the above, you are also provided with a nice quality canvas sack in which to keep the cables you don’t need today for a potential upgrade tomorrow. And yes, we called it a sack. There is no way to close it, so your cables do just sit inside it, meaning that they’ll probably spill out if it gets tipped upside down. It’s nice enough, but it would’ve been a little better with either a drawstring or, at the very least, a bit of velcro.
