How Much Does it Cost?

At the time of writing, we could not find any retailers currently stocking the Antec HCG Gold 1000 watt variant. However, based on prices seen for the 750 and 850 variants (which are available), we would suggest that consumers can likely expect something in the region of £140-£145.

Now, while this might sound like a lot of money (and it is!), you do have to consider that this is, without a doubt, a very potent power supply. Not just in terms of its 1000 watts of power output, but also because it has an 80-Plus Gold efficiency rating. Throw that in with that huge 10-year warranty Antec provides, and, overall, this is some excellent value for money and should be viewed more as a long-term investment than an individual purchase!

Performance

The Antec HCG Gold is undoubtedly an excellent power supply. It comes with many excellent features, and, as clearly demonstrated in our testing, was easily able to back it up with some very strong results. Key highlights of this included the exceptionally high (by Gold standards) efficiency scores, and, of course, that amazingly solid PFC.

In terms of performance, this is, by all reasonable accounts, practically flawless.

Practicality & Functionality

Offering a fully modular cable design, this is amazingly useful for consumers. Simply by the remit that you only need to fit the cables your system components require. In addition, with their generous length and high-quality braiding, cable management with this PSU should be an absolute doddle. Better still, for those of you who value low-noise system designs, the hybrid functionality offered here ensures that the fan only runs when absolutely necessary.

However, with 1000 watts of power, the practicality question will ultimately be determined by how potent your system is. For the ‘average’ gaming PC, this might be bordering a little on overkill. However, with other variants available (650-850), picking anything from this range will likely not disappoint you!

And although not strictly a question of practicality and functionality, the build quality within the PSU is absolutely beyond reproach. This is provided with a 10-year-warranty, and we see absolutely no reason why it shouldn’t easily be able to gobble that up, and potentially, for much longer!

Should I Buy One?

The answer to this question is largely determined by what your needs are. The Antec HCG Gold 1000 is an absolutely fantastic power supply in every respect. The only reason we wouldn’t recommend it to you is if your system power requirements are significantly more benign. As noted above, however, there is an excellent range of alternative models available in this series to suit basically all gaming desktop needs and requirements.

However, if you do have a rather beefy PC, or perhaps even something in the remits of a HEDT, the Antec HCG Gold 1000 will be absolutely perfect for you. It’ll diligently go about its job, offering amazingly high levels of performance and barely making a whisper about it!
