AOC G-Line C27G2ZU 240Hz Gaming Monitor Review

Performance

The key feature of this monitor is the 240hz refresh rate. Sure, it’s curved, has FreeSync and some other bells and whistles, but it’s the ultra-fast refresh rate that will have your focus. Not a lot of games are easily pushed beyond 200 FPS, even on high-end GPUs. You may have to drop some quality settings, even at 1080p, to ensure optimal performance. AAA single player games will be hard to push into bigger refresh rates, with some exceptions like Doom.

MOBA games and many F2P games actually tend to focus on higher frame rate support though. They also target lower end hardware, so getting huge frame rates is much easier in games like Fortnite, CS:GO, Overwatch, etc. The effect is profound too, coming from my 4K60 monitor, the resolution drop isn’t really an issue, as the extra frames fill in a LOT of extra visual information. Put simply, 1920×1080 has never looked so good. At least, it does while you’re gaming.

The lack of ghosting, the ultra-fast response time, the sheer volume of frames, it does make a big difference. You absolutely have an advantage and score more hits. I mean, I know I did, and I suck as competitive shooters. I even took it for a spin in ESO, and running through Markarth with almost 200 FPS looked freaking awesome.

It’s a fairly decent monitor for media consumption too, I would perhaps like the 32″ model if I were to use it for movies and TV as well though. The lightly curved panel looks great, and it’s very subtle. The speakers are a bit weak, more than enough for a few YouTube videos or social media consumption, but they don’t light my fire for movies, music and gaming. The black levels and overall brightness of the panel is good though, even in a well lit room, it really pops.

Oh and remember to set the display to 240hz in Windows Display Settings, as it’ll default to 60hz, silly Windows!

As a child still in my 30's (but not for long), I spend my day combining my love of music and movies with a life-long passion for gaming, from arcade classics and retro consoles to the latest high-end PC and console games. So it's no wonder I write about tech and test the latest hardware while I enjoy my hobbies!
