Memory and storage manufacturer Apacer has a new PCIe SSD called the PT920 Commando which should make NRA members happy. Unlike other PCIe SSDs with a normal heatsink, the new Apacer PT920 Commando is shaped like a receiver of an automatic rifle. It even has an integrated handle at the top. Apacer designed this heatsink to act as a “convection-cooling” system, according to the promotional material. The PT920 Commando is also desert colored, although it does not come with a camo pattern version.
Apacer offers each PT920 in 240GB or 480GB capacities and utilizes MLC NAND. Sustained read and write performance goes up to 2,500MB/s and 1,350MB/s respectively for the 480GB version. Despite the larger than normal PCIe SSD size due to the heatsink, it is only a single-slot solution. The total dimension measures 160 x 120 x 22mm and it weighs 140g.
Each drive has a MTBF rating of 2,000,000 hours and can withstand shock up to 1,500G/0.5msec or vibrations 5~800Hz/3.13G. Operating temperature rating range starts at 0 degrees celcius and goes up to 70C. In terms of non-operating storage temperature range however, it ranges from -40C up to 95C. It comes with a 3-year warranty.
