In case you aren’t familiar with the reference HD 6990 design then we’ve got a few pictures to refresh your memory. The stock cooler on the reference HD 6990 uses a totally enclosed design with a single central blower style fan. This blower style fan forces air out the back of the case through the PCI bracket and into the case at the end of the card.
The stock cooler features a backplate with spring loaded screws to hold the GPU brackets in place. Remember you will need all of the stock screws with the Arctic Accelero Twin Turbo 6990 cooler because Arctic do not provide any screws, so keep everything when you take the stock cooler off.
The stock cooler is not that thick, it takes up exactly two slots and you can see it is sealed at the top.
