ASRock X79 Extreme9 X79 Motherboard Review

The X79 Extreme9 comes in a large box and includes the styling that we’ve seen from the Z68 and other X79 boards with very little detail on show, but still an amazing looking brushed-metal style. Some of the key features are presented towards the bottom of the box.

The rear gives us the main details of the board including a listed layout of the board and information on the key features that ASRock have implemented onto the board, with their X technology.

The front panel opens up to reveal more of the key features of this board, as a lot of thought has gone into the power delivery. ASRock are branding this board as part of the “Overclock King” range of boards, and are hoping to achieve that through Digi Power, premium gold capacitors and an advanced 16 + 2 Phase design. Other key features include HyperDuo Plus technology, the included Game Blaster PCI-Express card and the X-Fan cooling design.

By opening the front panel flap, it reveals a first look at the board, protected by a plastic shell casing over the top.

Opening up the box, we find a first glimpse of what comes bundled including a quick installation guide, software setup guide, I/O panel shield plate and driver installation CD.

Also inside the box are six SATA data cables and if needed, two SATA power cables that convert from Molex power connectors.

For those wanting the ultimate system, you may be looking at multiple graphics card configurations, and because of this, ASRock bundle in a 3-way SLI bridge and single SLI bridge.

To give extra USB functionality, ASRock include a USB 3.0 front bay panel which incorporates two USB 3.0 ports. Also included is an expansion bracket, if you wish to have the bay panel at the rear of your case instead. Also all mounting screws come included for both orientations.

Though the board has its own rear I/O, a new device labelled as an ASRock Game Blaster comes included, which incorporates Broadcom Gigabit LAN and Creative Sound Core 3D to give you the ultimate gaming experience with the best quality audio and lag-free gaming.
