Asus Maximus IV Gene-Z Z68 Motherboard Review

Another Asus board on our test bench means another lovely BIOS to use. The Gene-Z uses a graphical UEFI BIOS which we’ve come to love due to how simple and effective it is. Being a ROG board, we find the BIOS comes in a red theme ROG skin. The first screen you see will be the “Extreme Tweaker” which has plenty of options and sub-menus to get you overclocking in no time including memory and voltage options.

There is also an area to show what speed the PCI-Express lanes are running at and what memory you have in your chosen memory slots.

Being an ROG board and supporting ROG Connect, we find a few options for configuring the iROG settings.

There is also an area for monitoring voltages, temperatures and fan speeds, which is vital when pushing your hardware to the limits through use of overclocking.

Boot options allow you to see what drives you have connected and to alter various settings to do with the booting of your system.

Under the tools menu we find an area devoted to flashing the BIOS, SPD information, saving and loading OC profiles and GO button settings.

This BIOS is a joy to use and is definitely our favourite across the other brands of board as it offers a simple setup with very effective options. We will be overclocking through the use of the BIOS in a couple of pages time, and you can see exactly how far we can push our components, but for now, let’s take a look at what components we will be using to test with.
