Asus Maximus VIII Extreme Sub-Zero Overclocking Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

The pricing currently $487.63  on Amazon and is one of the priciest boards on the market, depending on where you are. It is a tough pill to swallow with a price like that but for the money you are getting one of the strongest boards on the market today.

Overview

Overall, the Maximus VIII Extreme is easily the best Z170 motherboard that I have used to date. I’m happy to say that I have loved using it to squeeze as much performance as I could from my 6700K CPUs. Unfortunately, I don’t haven’t had the greatest luck, as I only have some fairly standard performing 6700K CPUs, but with the motherboard’s ability to push the memory performance to such great levels, I was still able to make some good results overall.

There are so many bells and whistles on this board that it can sometimes be a bit much, especially when you are trying to do extreme overclocking since they are just extra things you need to disable. The board is a breeze to overclock and really the only thing that will hold you back when you extreme overclock on the Maximus VIII Extreme is how good your CPU is.

There are so many memory options that it can definitely be intimidating for those who aren’t great at memory tweaking. Thankfully there are a plethora of memory overclocking profiles that will help users get a starting point for overclocking and allow them to get even more performance from the system very easily. With the price tag of the motherboard, it is nice to see features like this that really make the board perform well and allow it to justify the price.

Having tested this motherboard for a long time, I really have to say that this is one of my favorite boards to use of all time and using the it was a pure pleasure. You can definitely tell that a lot of time and effort was put into the creation of Maximus VIII Extreme. It also has the ability to run Windows XP, though it can be difficult to set up as a benchmarker, it is really a huge plus overall.

“The Maximus VIII Extreme makes overclocking fun and enjoyable with its great feature set and is the ideal option for extreme overclocking the new 6600K and 6700K.”

Thank you ASUS for providing us with this sample.
