ASUS ROG GL703G 144Hz G-Sync Gaming Laptop Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

The ASUS ROG GL703G is currently retailing for £2099.97. That is clearly a lot of money, even in laptop terms. You do, however, have to consider what you get for this money. Not only are you getting one of the best processors available, but you are also getting a Nvidia 1070. In addition to this, you are also getting a decent 16GB of RAM and large and exceptionally fast performing SSD.

Lest we forget that this particular bundle also comes complete with an ASUS ROG branded gaming mouse, backpack, and headset. When you approach it from that aspect, it does represent an excellent return for your money.

Overview

In terms of overview, it is hard to fault the ASUS ROG GL703G. In terms of the packaging, design, and performance, this laptop ticks all the boxes. At the risk of sounding repetitive the inclusion of a gaming headset, backpack and mouse is also an excellent choice. Everything is presented in an excellent style which is both bold and understated.

Performance

The 8th Generation Intel i7-8750H processor and Nvidia 1070 GPU compliment each other exceptionally well. The CPU and GPU testing both in terms of work and play show that the ASUS ROG Gl703G is an excellent if not top performer in its category. With it having broken a few records in our testing, it clearly shows that this has more than a little punch.

In addition, the 144Hz g-sync monitor is both a perfect size and gives a nice crisp image.

The SDD drive as well is of a nice capacity and the performance figures clearly speak for themselves.

The only slight caveat in terms of performance is the temperatures and noise. In both categories, these are higher than we would have liked to have seen. It does validate our concerns over the lack of vents to the laptop and this is something that would perhaps be an issue if you are looking for whisper-quiet performance.

Design

The laptop as a whole is fantastic to look at. It is again an area where it is hard to find fault. While it doesn’t necessarily push the boat out in any one area, what it does do, it does well being both stylish and understated. Even in areas where they might have gone big and brash (such as the ROG logo), they have instead decided to put it clearly on display, while not making it a major factor.

Even the more contentious factor such as the keyboard lighting is understated. It would, perhaps, have been better (in an uncharacteristic opinion of ours) to go a little bolder in this regard. That is, however, all a case of personal preference.

Should I Buy One?

For a little over £2000, the ASUS ROG GL703G clearly represents quite a significant outlay. One which may deter people who are looking for the best they can get for the price they can afford. There is, however, a major factor which one has to consider with this specific laptop. Put simply, you are getting a lot for your money.

Not only are you getting a laptop with fantastic performance figures, but you are also getting all the aforementioned additional items which really tips the scale in terms of this being a truly impressive product.

In brief, yes, it is expensive, but boy do you get a lot for it.

Pros

  • Excellent performance figures both at work and play.
  • Nice design choices make it attractive to look at.
  • The RGB keyboard design is nice and attractive.
  • The 144Hz g-sync monitor is a delight to behold.
  • The inclusion of so much in this bundle represents excellent value as an ‘all-in’ package.

Cons

  • The temperature and noise levels are quite notably high when pushed hard.

Neutral

  • The keyboard lighting effects could have been a little bolder.
