3DMark Firestrike

With the ASUS ROG GM501GS being powered by an 8th-generation i7 and a Nvidia 1070, we expected some strong results in this regarding. With the testing specifically calculated based on both on CPU and GPU performance in both regards this laptop clearly has some power. This isn’t the first time we have tested a laptop with an 8th-gen Intel and Nvidia GPU. As such, we did have a fairly good idea before we began where this should sit in terms of results. As expected this laptop performed amongst some of the best we have tested to date.

Unigine Superposition 1080p Extreme

In truth, in this regard, the score was a little lower than expected. Although the Gm501GS does generally fall within the remit of the other Nvidia 1070 GPU scores we have tested, it is clearly at the lower end. We would, however, call the score consistent enough to be a fair indicator of performance. Albeit in this instance, the score was towards the lower end.

PCMark 10

The ASUS ROG GM501GS gave an excellent score in the PCMark testing with it being amongst the higher results we have recorded. At least in this category of testing. The CPU Intel® Core™ i7-8750H Processor is clearly a top performer. One which, since we have tested it now on a few occasions, seems to consistently give excellent results.

WPrime 32M and 1024M

As per the Supervision testing, the results here are a little inconsistent to that we have seen before with this processor. We have no particularly good answer for this. Despite having run the test three times a consistent score was given. We must therefore again just mark this as an aberration rather than an indication. We can assure you that we have seen this 8th-generation Intel processor perform much faster. This may, however, indicate that the supporting motherboard may not be as good in comparison.

Cinebench R15

Unlike the WPrime results, the Cinebench results are a lot more in line with what we expect. Finding itself only slightly outscored by the ASUS ROG Gl703G the Gm501GS clearly shows that it is no slouch either.

Handbrake MP4 to MKV Conversion 4K

Video rendering if often not the top priority of any laptop owner. Despite that though, in our video conversion test, the ASUS ROG Gm501GS did really well. Converting the video at 37fps is a very respectable figure and as you can see below, puts it amongst our best results.
