Computer firms will soon be incorporating Kinect technology into laptops, according to a new report.
The Daily says it’s seen the tech already – a pair of Asus laptops with Kinect gear built right into the units’ displays. The site says that the prototypes appeared to be just like regular laptops, but donned an array of sensors above the screen where the web cam would normally go, and a panel of LEDs below the screen.
It also reports that a Microsoft source confirmed the presence of Kinect technology in the prototypes.
It speculates that MS is likely to license out the technology to various hardware firms, who could leverage the sensors for new control interfaces and interaction in the upcoming Windows 8 operating system.
Microsoft confirmed at CES earlier this month that Kinect PC will launch in 12 countries (UK, US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain) on February 1.
