Excitement surrounding AMD‘s long awaited entry into the HEDT market with Threadripper and the X399 platform is coming to a boil. Thankfully, fans do not have to wait for long as official details are due on July 25. That is when AMD will host their monthly ‘Meet the Experts’ event, giving various partners a chance to promote their hardware. However, information is already leaking out, courtesy of the usual sources. ChipHell for example has the ASUS X399 RoG Zenith Extreme which they have given an unboxing preview of.
Comes with Tons of Accessories
A high-end motherboard deserves a lot more than a standard offering, so the X399 RoG Zenith is no exception. It comes with various SLI brackets, ASUS DIMM2 extension card, Ethernet card with Wi-Fi network antennas, SATA cables and more.
The PCIe network card comes with its own fancy RoG branded shroud instead of just an exposed PCB. The RoG DIMM2 accessory is used for mounting M.2 drive on the DIMM slot beside the actual DDR4 memory slots. This is similar to the feature from the Maximus IX APEX motherboard. This also doubles as a fan mounting support for the DIMM slots.
The ASUS X399 Zenith appears to be the largest X399 motherboard so far with an Extended ATX form factor. That is with good reason considering it has the DIMM.2 slot, plus it is also chockful of on-board features. The biggest advantage of the X399 platform over Intel’s HEDT is that it offers 64-PCIe 3.0 lanes. This is how ASUS can offer four PCIe x16 3.0 slots and still have additional bandwidth for several PCIe devices for storage and accessories. As the name implies, The X399 Zenith does not seem to compromise on anything and takes full advantage of what the X399 platform offers.
Hopefully, its VRM cooling is adequate unlike what happened to the Intel X299.
