ASUSTOR launched their first generation of storage capacity expansion units with the first model being the AS6004U. Upgrading your NAS to a model with more drive bays can become an expensive operation, especially since you might not need to.

With the new AS6004U expansion unit, users will be able to expand their current ASUSTOR NAS with another four drive bays. With 10TB hard drives, that’s 40GB more RAW capacity to your existing setup. The unit connects to the NAS through a single USB 3.0 cable, this making the setup a plug-and-play operation.
ASUSTOR 31/32/50/51/61/62/70 series users can connect up to three of these units at the same time. That is 120GB RAW capacity extra if you are using 10TB drives. And why not? If you only need more capacity while the rest of the system is powerful enough for your needs, then it is a perfect option.
The budget is one of the key reasons to get an expansion unit. In situations where economy matters, power consumption matters too. The AS6004U unit will enter sleep mode automatically when you power down your NAS. It automatically wakes up again and resumes its duties as soon as the NAS has power again. That saves on your electricity bill and total cost of ownership.
The AS6004U is equipped with four disk bays and is compatible with the largest hard drives on the market, that’s currently considered to be 10TB when we don’t count HGST’s new He12. It supports hot swapping, RAID volume configurations, and AES 256-bit encryption for your valuable data. It also supports ASUSTOR’s exclusive MyArchive cold backup technology which is a function that essentially allows users to achieve unlimited cold-storage expansion.
