Australian police said that they have rescued about half a dozen motorists in recent weeks who had used the app to navigate around the city, only to find themselves stuck in the middle of the wilderness. Whoops!
Although Apple, Inc. did recognise a few months ago that iOS maps was inaccurate and therefore even led people to use alternatives, but since there were still some people using at and as police in Victoria, Australia were concerned about complaints of motorists being stranded, they issued a warning on Monday to discourage iphone users from relying on Apple’s map service.
The police said in a statement,”Tests on the mapping system by police confirm the mapping systems lists Mildura in the middle of the Murray Sunset National Park, approximately 70km away from the actual location of Mildura. Police are extremely concerned as there is no water supply within the Park and temperatures can reach as high as 46 degrees [Celsius, roughly 115 degrees Fahrenheit], making this a potentially life threatening issue.”
