The system’s GTX 1060 can uphold a stellar frame-rate when paired with a 1080p monitor. Not only that, it’s possible to enjoy a perfectly smooth user-experience while running the game at 2560×1440. Unfortunately, the GPU hasn’t got enough horsepower for 4K gaming while using the Very High preset. Opting for lower settings should yield much better results at this demanding resolution.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

Rise of the Tomb Raider’s Very High setting offers impeccable visual fidelity and requires the appropriate graphics hardware to maintain a consistent frame-rate. Thankfully, the GTX 1060 is up to the task even on a 2560×1440 monitor. On the other hand, you’re likely to notice major frame dips at the higher resolutions and I’d recommend scaling back the settings. If you’re planning to play 4K games, the GTX 1060 isn’t going to fulfil your demands.

Hitman

The system’s performance in Hitman is commendable but it begins to struggle once the resolution is set above 1920×1080. Despite this, the 1080p frame-rate doesn’t plummet during demanding sections and the 1440p performance is decent given the GPU’s mainstream price point. It’s important to note that there’s a major boost when selecting the GTX 1070 which makes the GTX 1060 not as compelling from a value perspective.

Far Cry Primal

A similar pattern emerges when assessing Far Cry Primal and the system maintains a dependable 1080p frame-rate. While the 1440p average is good enough for most, it won’t appeal to those who demand a constant 60 frames-per-second experience. However, this can be achieved with the High preset and the beauty of PC gaming is the flexibility to find a balance between performance and visual quality.
