Battlefield 1: Incursions Alpha will be Free for (Nearly) All to Access

Battlefield 1: Incursions – (Nearly) Free for all!

Following the release of Battlefield 1, Dice have been under some criticism to keep its famous fighting franchise fresh. many felt that the DLC for Battlefield 1 was too slow in arriving and when it did, it didn’t offer much.

Fortunately, the release of the ‘In the Name of the Tsar’ has addressed some of this criticism, however, the latest re-imagining of the game Battlefield 1: Incursions has many fans willing to forgive the lack.

So how is this ‘nearly’ free for all?

Battlefield 1: Incursions is set to feature a smaller scale, squad-based, action. This in contrast to the larger scale combat the Battlefield series is best known for.

So, the nearly? Basically, all PC (more specifically EA Origin account holders) are going to be allowed to apply for access to the closed Alpha. This, unfortunately, will not extend to console peasants, I mean users.

The closed Alpha will be limited to players in North America and Europe, however, as above, any PC owner can apply.

In an interview with PCGamesN, Battlefield 1: Incursions producer David Sirland has said: “the closed alpha isn’t for everyone, but we’re not locking it, you don’t have to own the base game. It’s free to play and test if you get in, and we want more players to try this out. We want players who maybe don’t play Battlefield to have a go at it and give their feedback, good or bad.”

It certainly is positive news for PC gamers. Particularly since you do not have to own Battlefield 1, let alone any Battlefield game at all to sign up for this closed Alpha.

Should I sign up?

I was a little let down by Battlefield 1. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the single player campaign, which for a Battlefield game was remarkably good. However, I found that the multiplayer aspect was rather stale. Subsequent changing in patches didn’t help much either.

I still haven’t forgiven Dice for nerfing the bayonet charge.

While the addition of new maps has been good, in the grand scheme it hasn’t changed much for me.

I, therefore, think this (slightly) new direction is a good idea. I should prove to be the shot in the arm this title needs. You should be able to sign up for the open alpha via your Origin account. Based on what I’ve seen, I would recommend it.

The Battlefield 1: Incursions open alpha will launch September 2017.

Still, don’t fancy it? Well, here’s a guide how you can get ‘jeep stuff’ to work in Battlefield 1.
