be quiet! Dark Base Pro 900 Rev 2 Full-Tower Chassis Review

A Closer Look – Exterior

The 900 is a very large chassis, and in a market that’s mostly full of mid-towers, it really does make quite a statement. This isn’t a chassis for your day-to-day mid-range gaming systems though. With all that size comes a vast interior for a huge amount of high-end hardware, that’ll likely make the £200-ish retail price of the chassis look cheap. Of course, no matter what you choose, it’s going to be on show through that large side panel window.

You’ll notice the front panel is closed up pretty tight. However, the chassis takes in airflow along the top front and bottom of the side panels. There’s a very nicely integrated ventilation system, all with huge dust filters throughout to ensure a clean running system.

There’s ventilation around both ends and the rear of the top panel too.

Front I/O

The front I/O is pretty slick, with four USB ports. The ports are split, with USB 3.0 on the left, and USB 3.1 on the right, offering a fast charging port and Type-C connector. If cables for charging aren’t your thing, there’s a huge Qi wireless charging pad on the top of the chassis too, which is pretty neat. The only thing I can’t see here is a reset button, but holding the power button down will likely get you the result you desire anyway.

The front panel may look closed up tight, and it is, but it’s still got a few tricks to reveal. Open the hinged panel and you’ll find it’s padded with a thick layer of sound dampening material.

Dust Filters

There are two gorgeous Silent Wings 3 140mm fans pre-installed, some of the finest fans on the market I might add! They’re housed behind a very nice dust filter, and with the noise dampening, they’re unlikely to cause much noise, if any.

There’s a full-length slide out dust filter below the fans also. This is for the side air ventilation, and having it removable from the front means it’s super easy to clean.

The right side of the chassis looks stunning too. Sure, it’s basically just a blank panel, but the devil is in the details. The edges are rolled to keep the chassis shape flowing, and there’s a removable ventilation panel, more soundproofing, tool-free mounting, and more ventilation too. Remember, this chassis is reversible too. With a bit of effort, you can put this panel on the other side, glass on this side, and turn the motherboard around too (see the video on the first page of this review).

Around the back, everything is as you would expect, or is it? Firstly, we have a 120/140mm fan mount up top. Furthermore, it comes pre-installed with another lovely Silent Wings 3 140mm fan! Further down, you’ll find eight expansion slots and plenty of ventilation.

The most interesting part is this fake PSU back-end. It’s pretty darn wide, much wider than ATX. However, it’s just a take panel with a power pass-through cable. The actual PSU mount is a few inches behind this.

The base of the chassis is super clean, with just four large feet providing excellent stability. Remember, all the airflow comes through those wrap around vents on the sides of the chassis, and those huge slide-out dust filters.
