I feel that I should start this one by clarifying two key points for those of you who might already be a little confused. Firstly, no, that’s not a typo in the title. Secondly, yes, the Nvidia 3080 and 3070 graphics cards were both launched in the latter part of 2020 (over two years ago now). – Despite this, however, it seems that Biostar clearly believes that it’s better to be late than never as following a report via Videocardz, new listings on their official website have now categorically confirmed the launch of their custom ‘Extreme Gaming’ 3070 and 3080 graphics cards!
The news is, of course, more than a little bizarre. And not just from the point of view that the vast majority of manufacturers announced their custom models over two years ago, but more so from the point of view that we’re already onto the next generation of Nvidia GPUs with the 4090 and 4080 already available and the 4070 Ti set to be confirmed in the next couple of days.
With this in mind, therefore, why has Biostar finally chosen this point to officially get into the 3080 and 3070 markets? Well, in this regard, there might be an answer.
Biostar was never shy about the fact that it hugely pandered towards cryptocurrency mining. And no, that’s not a criticism from me as they were about the only manufacturer, of the vast majority of them who did it, who was at least open and honest about it! – With this in mind, therefore, with GPU-based mining now mostly defunct, it does make me wonder whether Biostar has now ‘launched’ these 3080 and 3070 graphics cards in order to clear out stock from what was, up until the latter part of 2022, probably just going direct to cryptocurrency organisations.
It’s an interesting theory if nothing else, but if you would like to learn more, you can check out the ‘new’ official product website links here:
