Nintendo will launch a Brain Training-style game for 3DS in Japan this summer.
European launch plans weren’t confirmed, but it’s surely only a matter of time given the success of the DS originals.
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said:
“We agreed that if we were to make another game it would only be when we had some kind of special new idea for it. And for this reason, six years have passed. However, brain science has continued to progress, and three years ago, Dr Kawashima came to me with new brain science.”
The upcoming title will feature two types of brain exercises, concentration ones and working memory ones. Iwata said working memory “is the system where information that enters your brain is held temporarily as it is manipulated and used”. These exercises will be a serious challenge, with difficulty scaling according to player ability, Iwata said, and will see Dr Kawashima take the form of a demon throughout.#
