The gaming market in China has predominately been PC’s, but all that looks set to change with the 14 year ban on consoles being lifted. This could be good news for Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft. Although Sony and Microsoft are both experiencing great sale numbers with the release of the PS4 and Xbox One, it is Nintendo that could probably boost the under-performing sales of the Wii u with the opportunity to finally sell their consoles in China.
Since the start of the 21st century video game consoles have not been able to be sold in China, with the Chinese government claiming “video games have a negative effect on today’s youth”. However this didn’t stop people playing games as many in China can still jump on and enjoy a game on their PC.
The only other option for those that wanted to own a console was to relocate, but at the start of 2013 rumours began circulating that the ban may be lifted and what better way to start off 2014 then by having the ban lifted. Although there is no word on how long this “temporary lift” on the ban will last for.and at this stage there is also no word on if either Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo will start releasing their respective consoles now the ban has been lifted. We’ll bring you more information when it becomes available.
