CM Storm Scout II Advanced Chassis Review

Cooler Master have delivered one fantastic product with the Scout II Advanced, and while its only seen minor revisions over the previous Scout II its gone a long way to addressing some of the minor issues that people had with the last edition. I personally love the original Scout chassis and the Scout II, which I personally gave our eTeknix Editors Choice Award. It was more than worthy of that award too and I personally never had any major issues with it, but every consumers needs are different and its great that Cooler Master are not only listening to these needs, but also addressing them with revisions.

There are so many little touches that really make this chassis idea for the LAN loving gamer and overall these things add up to a lot. Details like a fan LED switch helps you turn the lights out when gaming in the dark, anyone who visits a 24 hour a day BYOC gaming tournament will no the importance of needing to dim the lights from time to time. A second 2.5″ drive tray has been added to make way for the ever rising popularity of SSD hard drives, a range of high quality fans have been installed (the Scout II lacked extra fans) and best of all they’ve added the dust filters to the bottom of the chassis which will improve maintenance requirements and keep the airflow clean.

Cooler Master haven’t stopped there either and have now reinforced the LAN friendly carry handle by bolting it right onto the main body of the chassis, a vital upgrade for those who have a multi GPU system and lot of extra cooling components etc, things can tend to get heavy, and now the handle should easily handle the extra weight. The thick exterior body work, extended front panel edges and strong frame should also help the chassis survive a few extra knocks and bumps when you’re lugging it around to events, and the additional expansion slot will come in handy for a security locking device and finally a slide over cover on the front panel will keep your inputs protected and dust free.

The ability to pack a lot of fans, water cooling, multiple graphics cards and more in to this chassis really make it perfect for the ever-increasing demands of the PC gaming scene and this chassis does it all for a very reasonable price tag. Yet with all that considered, the thing I love the most about the Scout II Advanced is the new paint job, Gunmetal Grey, Midnight Black and the best of the bunch in my opinion Ghost While looks stunning and as practical as the chassis is, it also makes a feast for the eyes and simply a cool chassis to own.
