CM Storm Sonuz Gaming Headset Review

We’re always happy when we get to review CM Storm peripherals as they are normally very well priced for the features you are getting. The Sonuz retails at around $79, which is a fair price for a mid range, all-rounder headset. It has decent, loud and deep bass, which result in awesome explosions that drastically improve the experience when playing games like Battlefield 3. The headset is also very comfortable for it’s size. Whilst we don’t think it is the best looking of headsets, and the quality feels a little cheap, it still sits very well on your head and is comfortable even after hours of use.

Talking a bit more about the looks, we’re not a massive fan due to the much larger than normal size, however we do think that looks are purely subjective, so some people may think these look great. We do like the futuristic, swept look to them, but they are simply just too wide. The sound quality was also another issue we had with the performance of the headset as in some cases when gaming, watching a film or even listening to music, there were noticeable tones that came out as flat or “tinny” as they often say in the audio world. We don’t see this as a major problem as most of it can be rectified by some simple adjustments of the equaliser, although you can argue that you shouldn’t have to do that each time.

Overall we liked the Sonuz headset – sure we weren’t a massive fan of the aesthetics and the sound quality wasn’t the best we’ve heard, but for the price you are getting a pretty decent all-rounder headset. It’ll take a bit of tweaking to get the sound right for film and music, but overall it’s comfy and is more than adequate for most gamer. We don’t quite feel like it’s award-worthy, it’s very close to the budget award, but with a little better performance in the audio department and it’d walk out clutching the award. Don’t let this put it down though, it’s still a great headset and shouldn’t be overlooked.
