Co-Creator of Fable Series Releases Free Roguelike Out of Goodwill

Recently, the Co-Creator of Fable released a new roguelike game entirely for free named Moonring and whilst a new non-AAA game release isn’t major news, the intentions of the game are quite refreshing.

Moonring, From Co-Creator of Fable

Roguelikes aren’t often the type of game that I go for besides Risk of Rain 2 so this news would normally fly under my nose without the bat of an eye. The Co-Creator of Fable, Xbox’s popular action-role-playing video game series, recently released a roguelike named Moonring on Steam entirely for free. The game is described as a “retro-inspired open-world, turn-based, tile RPG in the style of the classic ultima games” and it features procedurally generated dungeons and over unique 100 enemies. All in all, for a free game this sounds great for fans of Roguelikes and Ultima games.

What makes this free title all that more interesting is developer Dene Carter’s nice and refreshing intentions. In the comments of a playthrough of the game, Dene has been quoted as saying “Life is hard, Covid sucked, everyone’s poor and stressed, I don’t need the $300 this would make me: I’d rather take the goodwill.” By this response, it seems that Dene has made the game purely out of passion which is sorely lacking in the gaming industry, especially from the larger companies.

About Moonring

A dark-fantasy, turn-based, retro-fusion of classic turn-based RPGs and roguelikes, all presented with a unique neon aesthetic.

Moonring is available on Steam now for Windows PC’s with 8GB of memory and a functioning processor.
