Cooler Master G750M Semi-Modular Power Supply Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

The Cooler Master G750M 750W Semi-Modular Power Supply is available from most major retailers for less than £70, which is pretty impressive given the trusted brand name and the wattage provided. You can pick one up for £68.32 from CCL Computers in the UK and from Newegg for just $94.99 in the UK. I have seen a few deals list them cheaper in the past, so it’s always worth checking your local retailer and Google first.

Conclusion

In terms of hardware specification, this power supply was never going to blow us away with its performance and well, it didn’t. I can’t say I was expecting much from this PSU, it’s got a modest power output, a fairly average 80 Plus Bronze efficiency rating, a less than ideal modular cable system and it’s marketed in a price range that I would regard as budget friendly, at least when taking into consideration the wattage on offer. However, despite all this, the unit performed really well and will certainly give the competition a good run for their money.

The performance was very good, with very good ripple suppression, some good voltage regulation and very quiet performance under 60% load. Then we’ve got the bonus of the efficiency being right at the top end of the 80 Plus Bronze certification, it barely missed being rated an 80 Plus Silver unit!

The modular design isn’t perfect, but it’s certainly better than nothing when you’re trying to reduce the number of cables within your chassis. The hard wired cables are a little retro looking with their loose braiding and multi-colour inner cables, but at this price range it’s hard to fuss about aesthetics without having to sacrifice something else and since the performance was good, I’m happy to accept boring cables for better power delivery any day.

It’s a little cheaper than it’s nearest competitor, the Corsair CX750, whilst also being rated to run constantly at 40c vs the CX750s 30c and it’s a little bit more compact; not a huge differences, but it’s certainly worth thinking about every edge you can get at this price range.

Pros

  • Affordable
  • 750W power
  • Good ripple suppression
  • Semi-modular design (albeit, a limited one)
  • 80 Plus Bronze efficiency
  • Quite at low loads
  • Compact design

Cons

  • A little noisy at higher loads
  • Semi-modular cable design seems too limited and unnecessary

“For a budget friendly power supply, the Cooler Master G750M has a lot to offer to any system builder. A nice addition to any system that needs plenty of power, without costing the Earth.”
